Leading Edge Hair Salon in Santa Rosa CA – One of the most common ways of choosing a new hairstyle is by looking at celebrity hairstyles. From Marilyn Monroe’s notorious pin curl look to the amazing sensation of Jennifer Aniston’s “Rachel” hairstyle, celebrities have driven styling trends throughout history. However, nothing is more frustrating than dreaming of a celebrity coif, just to have your stylist tell you, “I’m sorry, but your hair just won’t do that” or, even worse, attempting a style that doesn’t work with your hair.
One of the top considerations when choosing a new hairstyle is your hair texture. Attempting a hairstyle for thick, coarse hair, when you have fine, thin hair is sure to leave you flat! While trying a style for fine hair can make someone with thick, coarse hair walk away feeling like the Shaggy DA.

To make your style choices even more confusing, it is important to know how to work with your hair texture to achieve the look you’re after. Here are the top tips to help you choose a style that works with your hair type:
Coarse Hair
If your hair is coarse, your style can often be weighted down by the thickness of your tresses. In order to lighten-up your look, avoid blunt-cut styles. These one-length looks will leave your thick hair feeling chunky and even bushy. Try styles that include many layers and heavy texturing to lighten your look.
Fine Hair
When hair is fine, it lacks the volume of thicker hair and can leave your style looking flat. One of the best ways to counter-act fine hair is to add volume by processing your hair with either coloring or a permanent wave. Either process will add consistency and volume to fine hair. Also, choosing a cut that adds volume by layering or texturizing hair will remove some of the extra weight giving you extra volume.
Having a trusted advisor who knows how to work with your hair texture can help you move your style from OK to fantastic. If you’d like help choosing the perfect cut, give us a call at Leading Edge Hair Salon in Santa Rosa CA. We’re happy when you look fabulous!

AVEDA’s Smoky Eye Totorial – Brought to You By The Leading Edge – Top Salons in Santa Rosa, CA
Leading Edge – Top Salons in Santa Rosa CA – Because makeup plays such a strong role in a “put-together” look, the top salons in Santa Rosa CA have an on-staff makeup specialist on staff to help their clients put together a look that compliments their facial features and life. Our makeup artist at the Leading Edge Salons in Santa Rosa CA has seen a continued interest in of one of the most lasting and requested styles in eye makeup, the “smoky eye.” Our partners in beauty at AVEDA have provided this fantastic tutorial to help achieve this classic look:
First prep the eyelids for color. A little eye shadow transformer helps eye shadow glide on smoothly and lasts longer applied to eyelids with our #2 medium eye color brush. Now we are ready to apply color. Our Petal Essence Eye Color Trio simplifies creating the smokey eye. To highlight the brow bone we will take a medium color brush and apply the lighter shade from our eye color trio. Here we are using the copper haze trio brush shadow from the brow bone to just past the crease. For more depth use the same brush to apply the medium shade upper eye color trio from lash line to just above the crease to contour.
Now we are going to take the same shade and sweep along the lower lashes connecting the shadow at the inner corner and outer corner of the eye. The eye smudger brush works great for this. Here is what we really going to into creating that smokey effect, we take an eye definer which has a smooth creamy texture and line upper and lower lids going around the entire eye. Here we are using black orchid then we take our eye smudger brush to defuse the color.
To help the liner stay put we will go over with a deeper shade of our eye color trio using our eye smudger brush. The secret to professional results is to blend well. We are almost there. Apply Mosscara to upper and lower lashes we are using black forest on our model. We will go the brush to get the most even coverage then separate lashes with our brow and lash brush. To finish we define the brows. When we do an intense smokey eye we want to accent the brows to keep the effect soft using the deeper shade from our GOBI Sands Eye Color Trio does the trick. Apply with a brow and lash brush and brush through. See how easy it is to create a smokey eye by using a bronze color pallet we put a new twist on this classic technique.

Protect yourself from the weather – Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa
The first line of skin defense against harsh winter weather is to avoid or protect yourself from the weather. This means avoiding spending extensive periods of time outdoors without proper winter clothing. When going out, be sure to wear gloves to protect your hands against drying and cracking. In extreme cold weather, wear a protection for your face. Also, make sure that your clothing, and especially your shoes, stay dry.
Adjust Your Environment and Habits
Counter-acting dry air caused by indoor heating systems can be as simple as hooking up a humidifier. Placing one in every room where you spend a great deal of time, including bedrooms, can not only provide relief from dry air, but ease the symptoms of many wintertime illnesses including colds and bronchitis.
Drinking Water is one of the top ways to fight dry skin from the inside. Make sure to drink your daily allowance, and then some during dry weather to keep your skin soft and supple. Keep your showers short and not as hot to avoid the drying effects of super-hot showers.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Not only is it important to moisturize more often during the winter months, but it’s important to re-evaluate the moisturizers that you use. The lighter moisturizers that you use in the summer to keep your skin fresh and moist, without feeling greasy, may not offer enough protection and moisture in the winter. Consider switching to a heavier moisturizing cream such as AVEDA Tourmaline Charged Hydrating Crème from Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa. It protects skin from harsh environmental influences and leaves skin soft, radiant and optimally hydrated. Plus it minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Don’t forget the rest of your body. Lips, hands, feet and other dry areas such as elbows will need extra protection from the elements and moisture too. Take a look at our AVEDA online store for a great variety of moisturizers to moisturize your whole body. Products from Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa such as the AVEDA Lipsaver with an SPF 15 and our Hand and Foot Relief crèmes will keep your skin moist all day long.
Also, to make the most of your moisturizer, make sure to exfoliate. Freeing your skin of dead cells allows your moisturizer better penetrate dry skin.
Don’t Forget the Sunblock
The final piece of winterizing your skin is making sure to apply sunscreen. Clouds and snow reflect the sunlight actually intensifying your exposure to it. Make sure to wear sunblock on your exposed skin everyday with an SPF of 40 or higher when you’re engaging in outdoor activities.
Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa is committed to helping our customers make the most of their skin this winter season. Give us a call today for help in keeping your skin looking radiant this winter.

In Part 1 of Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa’s Guide to Winter Skin we discussed winter conditions that cause this season to be the hardest on your skin. In part 2 of this series, we will discuss specific skin conditions that this harsh weather can cause.
Wintertime Skin Conditions – A Guide from Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa
Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa – While the cruel winds of winter cause several different types of skin conditions, they are most likely to irritate and cause flair-ups of existing conditions. These include:
Itchy, dry skin
As exposed skin moves past the beginning stage of pushing additional blood to the skin and starts diverting some of it to the organs, the temperature of the skin reduces causing the first phases of skin damage: dry, itchy skin. In this stage, dry, itchy skin can be a source of extreme discomfort and can sometimes escalate to cracking skin. However, left unprotected and untreated, this can escalate into many other skin conditions.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a skin disorder causing patches of redness and swollen, irritated skin. Winter’s harsh conditions often agitate this condition and can cause flair-ups.
Sunburn and its sisters Cancer and Actinic Keratoses (sun spots)
As sun is a major health risk of the Winter months, Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa believes it makes sense that sunburn, sun spots and cancer risks are important skin conditions to be aware of. While sunburn may be a short-term “inconvenience”, the lasting, sombering effects of cancer are crucial to take into account.

Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa – While caring for our skin year round is of huge importance to maintain our healthy, youthful glow, winter is by far the most challenging time of year to plan for and create an effective skin care routine. Yet without taking the time out to give our skin the TLC it so rightly deserves, the results can be devastating to our appearance and overall health.
When planning your winter skincare routine, Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa believes it is important to educate yourself. Great winter skincare is more than slathering on a “one-size-fits-all” cream and calling it good. There are four basic areas to understand about winter skin care: 1) the elements that make wintertime so hard on your skin, 2) the potential skin conditions that form the greatest risk during winter weather, 3) the body parts most often effected by winter weather and their special requirements and 4) what are the best solutions for your personal skin needs.
Wintertime Risks from Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa
Cold, Dry air – As temperatures drop in the winter, so does the humidity level. As the temperatures start to fall, blood vessels located near the surface of the skin dilate (get wider) to protect the body from the effects of cols. As the mercury continues to fall, these periods of blood vessel dilation interchange with periods of constriction. This is your body’s effort not to lose heat from the extremities, but at the same to supply the skin with blood for oxygen and nutrients. This explains the reason for red cheeks and nose characteristic of frosty weather.
Wind – Wind serves to intensify the effects of cold, dry air causing even greater skin irritation.
Indoor Heat – While falling temperatures cause reduced humidity in the air outdoors, indoor heating systems, whether they’re gas, electric, wood-burning or other, further reduce humidity to near bone-dry levels.
Sun – We’ve all heard it before: While wintertime may seem like a lower risk time due to fewer sunrays reaching the earth, reflection of this indirect light off of water particles in the clouds and the snow intensifies its effect and can cause great risk for sunburn and even cancer.
With all of these risks combined, it’s no mystery why we need to pay extra attention to our skin during this season. Please read Leading Edge Hair Salon Santa Rosa’s Guide to Winter Skin Part 2, where we’ll discuss the specific areas of your skin most at-risk during the winter months.

Leading Edge Santa Rosa Salons experienced staff show pride in our ability to teach women the best techniques to apply makeup and which makeup products can help you look your best.
As an important part of their beauty regimen, most women agree that makeup helps them feel more attractive. In fact, 88% of women 18 or older say that they have worn some kind of make-up in the last 6 months. For most, makeup is used to cover-up flaws and blemishes, highlight their natural features, or express individuality. However, there are some less-known advantages to wearing tasteful makeup. Leading Edge Santa Rosa Salons would like you to share this recent article from the New York Times that discusses recent studies showing that women who wear tasteful makeup are perceived as being more intelligent.
Up the Career Ladder, Lipstick In Hand
In a study, women were photographed wearing varying amounts of makeup, from left: barefaced, natural, professional and glamorous. Viewers considered the women wearing more makeup to be more competent.
By CATHERINE SAINT LOUIS
WANT more respect, trust and affection from your co-workers?
Wearing makeup — but not gobs of Gaga-conspicuous makeup — apparently can help. It increases people’s perceptions of a woman’s likability, her competence and (provided she does not overdo it) her trustworthiness, according to a new study, which also confirmed what is obvious: that cosmetics boost a woman’s attractiveness.
With the benefits that makeup offers in improving women’s self-confidence and the perception that others have of them, it’s no wonder that makeup has become such a powerful part of the American beauty routine. Call Leading Edge – Top Santa Rosa Salons today to learn the latest trends and techniques to make the most of your appearance!
